Seminole County Florida Accepting Cryptocurrency for Tax Payments

Seminole County Florida announced that they will be accepting cryptocurrency for payment regarding various services this summer in an effort to reduce heavy fees and improve payments efficiency.

The county will begin accepting Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash to pay for services which include drivers licenses, ID card fees, license plate tags, property taxes, and titles according to reports.

The county will be utilizing blockchain payments through BitPay. This will allow the county to receive payment the next business day directly to its bank account in US dollars.

Seminole County is seeking to remove risk connected to credit card usage like identity theft and fraud. The county is the first government-funded user to utilize BitPay services.

Earlier in the month Arizona passed a bill that would allow state residents to pay taxes through cryptocurrency. However after further amendments, the bill merely obligated the Department of Revenue to “study” on if the taxpayer is liable to use a payment like Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.
